FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I book?

I prefer an online booking to be made via my booking system. I use Fresha, which is a secure and popular booking app where you can make your own account, manage your bookings (ie book, reschedule and cancel) as well as read and post reviews. I require a $20 non-refundable deposit, which can be paid via debit/credit card through Fresha where you can save your payment details for all future appointments. Alternatively, if you don't feel comfortable using my booking system, you can message me on social media or email me, and pay the deposit through a bank transfer. You can find me at @clawednailstudio on Instagram and Facebook, and at clawednailstudionz@gmail.com.

Do You do Pedicures?

No I do not offer pedicure services.

How do I find you?

As I am home based, I prefer to list my address in as few places as possible. When you make a booking, you will receive more in depth details about my location and how to find me.

Can I bring someone to my appt?

Yes however I would prefer if you let me know in advance.

Do you work on children?

I do not work on anyone younger than 14. Children may have thinner and weaker nails which would be more prone to damage, and they are less likely to sit still - which would not only be irritating for me but would risk damaging cuticles and getting uncured product on the skin.

What brands do you use?

The main brands I use are The Gel Bottle, Lola Lee, Kokoist, Designer Nails Distribution and Apres.

Can I Buy gift cards?

Yes, you can buy an online gift card via the booking system, or purchase a physical one when you visit the studio. The physical gift cards will have an online booking system code, so the recipient will still be able to book online.

Will gel ruin my nails?

A manicure should never harm your natural nails regardless of the product. Your nails should remain in the same or better condition if worked on by a trained professional with attention to safe prep and application.

Does the UV/LED LAMP CAUSE CANCER?

You are more at risk of skin cancer on your drive to your nail salon than curing gel in the lamp. Many reputable scientific studies have shown that UV lamps used in nail salons do not cause skin cancer. Here’s what the evidence tells us: UVB exposure from UV lamps is equal to what you’d get from spending just 17-26 extra seconds in the sun each day, during the two weeks between nail appointments. This level of exposure is considered safe and does not pose a cancer risk. An independent study by Lighting Science, alongside experts such as Doug Schoon (CND) and Paul Bryson (OPI), tested UV lamps from multiple brands and found that the UV light emitted by nail lamps is much lower than sun exposure or tanning beds.

Do You reuse tools and implements?

No porous items (such as files and buffers) are reused on any clients. They are disposed of each time or given to the client to take home. Metal implements such as cuticle nippers and e-file bits are scrubbed with strong chemical disinfectant and sterilized between uses.

How often should I rebook?

It depends on your lifestyle and nail health. It is recommended to go no longer than 4 weeks between reappliations or infills, as the weight of the product will shift as the nail grows and lead to stress fractures and lifting. If you use your hands a lot (ie. they are in water, frequent gardening or handling chemicals), are a current nail biter or are trying to grow out damaged nails, it is recommended to come between 2-3 weeks.

How do I prepare for my appt?

Please come with clean hands and nails. Try not to use moisturizer or cuticle oil close to your appointment time. Make sure you have used the bathroom as I am home based and prefer not to have clients use the bathroom unless in emergencies. Please do not bring small children unless they are able to sit quietly - if you are distracted it will slow the appointment time and risk making me run late.
